Of course, the cost will vary on several factors such as dumpster size, duration of rental, type of trash, permits needed for disposal and dump fees. Each of these factors will be discussed in the subsequent sub-topics below.

Factors Affecting Dumpster Rental Costs

There are three common size of dumpsters – 10 yard, 20 yard and 30 yard dumpsters.  Usually, 10 yard dumpsters cost around $300, 20 yard dumpsters cost around $425 and 30 yard dumpsters cost around $500.

Other dumpster sizes include 12, 15, 25, 40 and 50 yard dumpsters. Smaller yard dumpsters suit one time projects and light to medium projects such as minor decluttering and cleaning out. Meanwhile, 30 yard dumpsters and bigger are more suitable for remodeling, rebuilding, interior redecorating, construction debris and major decluttering.

Dumpster rental fees depend upon the total weight of trash put inside the dumpster. For instance, a filled dumpster will be weighed at the disposal station. After emptying, the dumpster will be weighed again. The weight difference will be computed and should not exceed the maximum weight capacity. Any excess in tonnage will be charged an extra fee.

The standard length of rental is one week except for peak season (after rainy season or end of spring). During peak season, the company may offer a few discount for those who can return the dumpster in a day or two. Should you fail to return the dumpster there would be an extra charge of $10 per day.

A dumping fee is also charged on top of the dumpster rental. Depending on your location, it may cost around $100 to $120 per ton. It totally depends on the economy and the number of competition.

Dumpsters that will be placed in public areas require a permit from the Department of Public Works or the Traffic Engineering Department. In Savannah, GA, the application fee is $20 with additional fees if the dumpster will take up parking space or when the permit is a result of city enforcement action.
